“If you can create pizza, you can sustain society.”
Rob Larson, my media literacy professor stated this in a lecture the other day. At first I laughed about it, and then I thought about it…
…and I believe it to be absolutely fucking true.
Rob was talking about this in the context of an apocalypse caused by a natural disaster or nuclear warfare. If the survivors actually had all of the necessary ingredients, and equipment to provide pizza to all, you literally could save the human race.
Now granted, we are talking theoretically about the ingredients it would take to make any type of pizza imaginable, but the point is if you had said ingredients, you would have enough to sustain life. Think of your favorite kind of pizza, regardless of what is on it, it has to have the crust, and sauce right? The crust is bread, and would provide you with your carbohydrates. The sauce (made of tomatoes), has vitamin C, and lycopene in it. We already have a somewhat healthy meal.
Now add everything else you would put on it, cheese would provide calcium, an array of vegetables with different nutrients could be put on, and don’t for get that post-appocolptic pepperoni to provide you with protein to help build your zombie fighting’ muscles.
The point of this post is to inject proof into a somewhat silly comment made my a teacher. I believe it got a chuckle out of the class (or maybe just me), but I thought of it as a comment that would lead to a both humorous and intelligent conversation at a bar. I hope we can have one of those someday, Rob.
Cheers.
